Voting and deliberations

How is the voting organised ?

1. All projects submitted are subject to pre-screening, at the end of which a vote is held to identify those proposals that: Address the competition’s theme Comply with industrial feasibility constraints Showcase glass as a material (the innovation may not be based solely on another material) 2. The vote is open on-line to all Verallia France customers, Verallia France employees and the jury. 3. The best projects in each category will be presented to the jury committee which, after deliberating, will elect the winners in each category. There is no need to contact us to find out the results or what the jury thought of your project, we will not provide any information until the awards ceremony, which will be held in late-June 2024.

How are the winners selected ?

In the General categories (Still and Sparkling Wines / Beers, Water, Non-Alcoholic Beverages / Spirits / Food Jars), an internal Verallia committee made up of people from the design, production, trade and marketing office will draw up a short list at the end of March. The short-listed projects will then be put up for on-line voting, open to Verallia customers and employees in May, as well as to design pack agencies and packaging journalists. Lastly, the jury will convene face-to-face to deliberate. There is no need to contact us to find out the results or what the jury thought of your project, we will not provide any information until the awards ceremony, which will be held in late-June 2024.

Who are the members of the 2024 jury ?

Each year, Verallia taps its network of customers to have at its side, on the jury committee, professionals from the food and beverage industry. All the markets and different functions are represented (Purchasing, Marketing, Development Department, etc.). During previous editions, the winners had the honour of being elected by experts from Vignobles Jeanjean and Maison Jeanjean, Rémy Cointreau, Le Petit Beret, Danone, Ravoire, Gobilab, etc. In addition to these professionals, renowned designers (the patrons at least) will be on-site to choose the best projects. In 2020, for example, Eve George, competition mentor, was with us. Journalists and design agencies round out this panel, to secure the innovative aspect of the products and bring to the committee a perspective enriched by current events. In 2021, IDEAT, Intramuros, V&S News, Emballage Magazine, Liquides & Conditionnement, Luxe Packaging Insight and Emballage Digest were part of the committee. The exact composition of the 2024 jury will be unveiled during the year.

When will the jury’s vote and deliberation take place ?

The vote will be open to members of the jury, Verallia customers and all Verallia France employees, from 7 April to mid- May 2024. The panel’s deliberation meeting will be held on 23 May 2024. There is no need to contact us to find out the results or what the jury thought of your project, we will not provide any information until the awards ceremony, which will be held in late-June 2024.

When will the winners of the Verallia Design Awards 2024 be announced ?

The winners will be notified after the jury’s deliberation in late May, prior to awards ceremony so that Verallia has time to produce a realistic model of their projects. To produce this model, a 3D drawing is needed; it can be made of glass (best-case scenario), or alternatively, Plexiglas, Pyrex or another material. During the creation of the mock-ups, ongoing discussion will be held between the winner and the Design Office. The winners of the Verallia Design Awards 2024 will be officially announced at the awards ceremony in late-June 2024. Each candidate will receive an email with personalised feedback about their project. There is no need to contact us to find out the results or what the jury thought of your project, we will not provide any information until the awards ceremony, which will be held in late-June 2024.

If I am a winner, how will I be informed ?

The winners will be contacted within a few days of the jury’s deliberation session. This gives us just enough time to ensure that the winning projects are indeed unique and original creations and that they are not subject to copyright. From there, the process moves very quickly as the models (created by specialised providers) have to be prepared. For this purpose, our Design Office will contact each candidate to gather as much information as possible about the project so that the mock-up can be produced (in pyrex, plexiglass, etc. depending on the time / feasibility and cost of production). Those candidates who have not been contacted may justifiably conclude that they will not be one of the winners of this year's competition. However, on the day of the awards ceremony, they will receive an email containing personalised feedback on their project. Even if a candidate's project is not a winner, if it is deemed of benefit and promising, it will be presented to Verallia customers. If a customer takes a liking to a particular project, the latter may be developed industrially and commercially. In this case, the candidate will obviously be involved and will be offered a contract for the transfer of rights by Verallia (see competition rules https://design.awards.verallia.fr/fr/reglement-du-concours/). There is no need to contact us to find out the results or what the jury thought of your project, we will not provide any information until the awards ceremony, which will be held in late-June 2024.

Factory tours

I would like to tour a glass factory: is this possible ?

If you are registered with your class, your head of academic affairs can of course contact us (see the contact form) to make arrangements for a site tour. Our Chalon and Cognac factories regularly open their doors to students.

What does a factory tour include ?

A factory tour traditionally starts at 10 a.m. and ends around 3 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. It consists of an introduction to glass material and the manufacturing process, usually by the plant manager or a technical manager. This is followed by a tour of the furnaces, hot end and cold end, offered for instance in Chalon by former factory employees (fab retirees!). Over the course of the day, the Director of the Design and Creation Office also introduces participants to his work, the development stages through which products go, a mock-up and a visit to the DCO to illustrate. The day often concludes with a few words about the competition. Watch the video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFcXToF5um8
